Third Stage of Divorce Grief
From DivorceSupportGroupsBlog.com
A third aspect of the divorce grieving process is bargaining. Bargaining is different from negotiating in that it is characteristic of desperation and a cligning to the marriage. Bargaining sounds something like, "I'll do whatever you want if you'll stay." Understand here that the idea is not to avoid bargaining behavior. It's actually a normal part of the process and something you must move through so you can keep moving forward in your recovery. Instead, you want to be aware that you are engaging in the bargaining behavior when it occurs. Notice it for what it is because bargaining is almost never successful for more than a brief moment. This way, you can keep it in check and prevent yourself from giving away your power. The key here is to move through it so you can continue your grieving process.
